March 2010 Mumps Outbreak in the Hasidic Community PSA (:60)
This is Dr. Robert Gaynes with the CDC, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with an important public health alert for the Hasidic community.
There may be mumps in your community. Protect yourself and your family now. Get vaccinated against mumps before Pesach.
Mumps can make you very sick and can lead to long-term health problems. People with mumps can spread the disease to others in their family and in their community. Babies and children may be especially at risk, but adults can also get mumps.
You can protect yourself and your children with a vaccine: the measles, mumps, rubella shot, also called MMR, protects against all three diseases.
If you don't know if you or your children are fully immunized, talk to your doctor about MMR vaccination.
