Release of updated data in Version 1.5.2

We have recently updated the HIW database. The HIW now has estimates for 20 indicators using 2009 mortality data and two indicators using 2008 infant mortality data.
Release of Version 1.5.2

In this latest release of the HIW, on May 29, 2012, we have added the ability to download not only all data for each indicator, but indicator data by state. This will reduce download time as well as simplify use of data should a user only require information for a specific geography. In addition, the structure of the Excel and CSV download file metadata has been slightly modified for ease of use. Finally, we have added an Indicator Report in PDF format listing all of the indicators with the level of geography and HIW ID number, which may be especially useful for developers. This report is located at the bottom of the right side bar on the Resources tab.

Release of Version 1.4.7

The latest release of HIW, on January 17, 2012, includes modifications the download files and the interface to improve ease of use. While no new data were added for this release, some data model changes and updates were necessary to support the download file changes. Individual download files are now accessed on a new tab for downloading on each indicator profile page. We separated metadata, that is the information about each indicator that is displayed on the indicator overview tabs, from the data in the new download files. Let us know what you think of these changes or any other thoughts or questions you may have about the Health Indicators Warehouse by emailing us at healthindicators@cdc.gov.

CMS indicators can now be mapped by Hospital Referral Regions

The Health Indicator Warehouse has recently added the ability to view the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Community Utilization and Quality Indicators by the 306 Hospital Referral Regions (HRRs). Previously, data for these 151 indicators could be viewed only by state. When you view the map display for a CMS indicator, click on the Hospital Referral Regions button found near the upper right of the map view. The map will refresh and show the HRR borders for the United States. Zoom in and out to explore the data values. HRRs were defined by the Dartmouth Atlas Group to depict health care markets in the United States. Read more about HRRs at http://www.dartmouthatlas.org/downloads/methods/geogappdx.pdf.
